HOOVER, Ala., May 25, 2008 (The Sun Herald - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- -- HOOVER, Ala. -- The Ole Miss Rebels still have some work to do.
Vanderbilt stopped Ole Miss 7-4 on Saturday afternoon in the SEC Tournament, forcing the Rebels to have to play again for a berth in the championship game.
LSU will now face Alabama, with the Crimson Tide needing two victories over the 10th-ranked Tigers to reach the championship game.
Ole Miss had two chances to beat Vanderbilt and earn a trip to the SEC Tournament title game last year, only to lose 12-1 before the Commodores struck for a comeback for the ages.
Vanderbilt wiped out a three-run deficit in the bottom of the 10th inning, taking a 7-6 victory on their way to the championship.
In Saturday's game, Ole Miss starting pitcher Cody Satterwhite lasted just 1 1/3 inning, departing because of an illness, according to the Rebels.
Vanderbilt (40-19) exploded for five runs in the top of the third and held on behind some exceptional play in the field.
Ole Miss (36-23) got a two-run home run from junior third baseman Cody Overbeck in the first inning. Overbeck leads the Rebels with 15 home runs.
Ole Miss will face Vanderbilt again after the LSU-Alabama game.
