MS State Senator Chris McDaniel tries to poke fun of Medgar Evers 50th memorial celebration on Facebook #msleg

By: Magnolia Tribune - June 9, 2017

State Chris McDaniel tried to poke fun of US Senator Roger Wicker for his attendance at the observance of the 50th anniversary of the death of slain civil rights leader Medgar Evers. The picture featured Wicker, Myrlie Evers-Williams, former President Bill Clinton and then US AG Eric Holder.

MS Governor Phil Bryant attended an commemorating event for Evers the same week as well.

The Republican governor stood by Evers’ widow, Myrlie Evers-Williams, just before going on stage to speak. Bryant said Evers “paid the ultimate sacrifice” in challenging segregation.

“The young people that I met, who were here reading today, live in a vastly different Mississippi than existed 50 years ago because of the hard work of men like Medgar Evers and women like Myrlie Evers,” said Bryant, 58. “So, as we ring the bell today, we pay homage to them.”

No word as to McDaniel’s thoughts about Bryant’s participation in the event.
