Prosecutor: 11 more could be indicted in Epps case

A federal prosecutor said Wednesday at least 10 more people will be indicted by July 18 in the corruption case of former Mississippi Corrections Commissioner Chris Epps.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Darren LaMarca told U.S. District Judge Henry Wingate during a status update that he expects 11 people to be indicted with 10 of those likely by the federal government and possibly referred to the state for possible indictment. LaMarca suggested those who could be indicted are employees of companies.

“Some know they are targets,” LaMarca said. “We plan to have that wrapped up by July 18. We will announce by then who we will prosecute.”
