Former Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd ordered to pay $260,000 in sexual harassment suit
Former Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd has been ordered to pay $260,000 in a sexual harassment suit brought against him by a former female deputy.
The jury issued its verdict in U.S. District Court Wednesday after three days of testimony. Both Byrd and the plaintiff, Kristan Seibert, testified, as well as other current and former members of the JCSO.
Jurors did not find that Byrd, either personally or in his capacity as sheriff, had committed sexual harassment against Seibert, but did find he had “inflicted emotional distress” upon her.
