Hernando mayor focused on winning transportation post despite race’s new makeup
Tagert is now left to seek re-election for his current post in the August Republican primary against Johnson and Jimmie Mills of Lee County. The winner will face Democrat Danny Woods of Winona in the general election.
Johnson says he was prepared in case Tagert did not win the congressional race.
“People asked me to run and contributed money to my campaign, and I would be doing a disservice if I did not follow through,” Johnson added.
