The challenger may be trying to set the GOP up with another “establishment” villain. The Senate Conservatives Fund, which has donated $70,000 to Mr. McDaniel’s legal defense, has pilloried Mr. Cochran’s Republican supporters in the Senate, including Ohio’s Rob Portman and Tennessee’s Bob Corker, as “anti-conservative.” Texas Sen. Ted Cruz has also criticized “the Washington Republican establishment” for pouring “millions of dollars into that race to preserve an incumbent.”
