Subpoenas issued for DuPree administration officials, phone records in election case

Less than a week from the beginning of the trial over the contest of the June 4 general election filed by mayoral candidate Dave Ware against Mayor Johnny DuPree, attorneys for both sides are taking legal jabs as more filings continue.

On Tuesday, DuPree’s legal team filed a motion to dismiss the case, or replead his complaint, under the guise Ware’s claims are too vague. Also, DuPree’s attorneys filed a motion for a more definite statement for the second time in the case, saying in the motion, “Ware’s petition is too vague to give DuPree fair notice of the causes of action asserted against him.”

Attorneys for Ware filed more than 20 subpoenas on Wednesday. Some officials called as witnesses by Ware for the trial are: Johniece DuPree, wife of Mayor DuPree; former assistant to the mayor, John Brown; city Public Relations Coordinator, Chinika Hughes; Parks and Recreation Director, Clemon Terrell; City Clerk, Eddie Myers; Deputy City Clerk, Kermas Eaton; Forrest County Chief Deputy, Charles Bolton and Forrest County Deputy, Samuel Lindsey.
