DeSoto team hopes to score federal funds, help for roads, air quality

A team of city and county officials from DeSoto County hopes a smooth-running and fact-loaded briefing will get funds flowing for roads and clear up ozone issues as they roll into Washington for the annual “Blue Ribbon” presentation of project priorities.

They’ll also thank lawmakers for support.

The group is to arrive in D.C. on Wednesday and is to meet with Mississippi’s congressional delegation on a whirlwind Thursday: U.S. Rep. Alan Nunnelee, the Tupelo Republican whose First District includes DeSoto; fellow GOP House members Steven Palazzo and Gregg Harper; Democratic U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson; and the state’s two U.S. senators, Republicans Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker.
