Miss. Democratic Party down and out (of most big races)

The Democratic Party in Mississippi has seen better days.

With just two weeks until Election Day, the GOP is poised to take a majority of statewide offices and possibly control of the Legislature.

“Any honest observer would tell you this is not a position that we want to be in,” said state Democratic Party executive director Rickey Cole.

The biggest indicator of just how bad things have gotten is the absence of a Democratic contender for lieutenant governor, secretary of state or auditor.

Officials say they are working to rebuild the state party and gain support.
