Miss. judge awaits confirmation

U.S. Senate poised to approve James Graves to Court of Appeals post

State Supreme Court Justice James Graves Jr. is poised to become a member of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

With Wednesday’s vote to confirm Graves’ nomination by the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, it’s almost certain Graves will join the federal bench.

He awaits a vote by the full Senate before he can be confirmed. The Senate vote is considered a formality because the lawmakers usually back the Judiciary Committee’s decision.

Graves couldn’t be reached Wednesday for comment.
