Weekend Forecast: Be prepared for more unbeatens to fall Saturday

Auburn, No. 1 in the BCS standings, heads to Mississippi, where the Rebels will be looking for a signature win to reverse a frustrating season. They are certainly capable after playing Alabama and Arkansas tough on the road in back-to-back weeks.

There’s also danger ahead for two other unbeatens.

Michigan State goes to Iowa with the Hawkeyes smarting from a tough loss to Wisconsin. This appears to be the last major hurdle for the Spartans in their quest to finish 12-0. Will they get tripped up?

Fresh off its defeat of Oklahoma, Missouri travels to Nebraska in a game that should decide the Big 12 North. If the Tigers prevail, their schedule, like Michigan State’s, is pretty manageable for the rest of the regular season.

With all the challenges to the title contenders, the surprising result this weekend would be if all of them somehow survive

No. 1 Oregon at Southern California, 8 p.m.
Lots of factors benefit the Trojans with the Ducks away from home on grass. They may not have the depth to last four quarters against a team that has outscored opponents 156-23 after halftime. Oregon 42, Southern California 38.

No. 3 Auburn at Mississippi, 6 p.m.
Uncharted territory for Tigers with their surge to No. 1 in the BCS. Handling the outside influences will be just as important as stopping the Rebels and quarterback Jeremiah Masoli. Auburn 31, Mississippi 26.
