NCAA discusses teams with losing records in bowl games

With 35 college football bowl games set for this season, there is a distinct possibility that there will not be enough bowl-eligible teams. In 2009, there were 71 bowl-eligible teams, but this season there are factors that could trim that number.
USC will not play in a bowl game, which would be a first in the last 10 years. In addition to missing the Trojans, FBS teams went 89-5 against FCS teams last season, but this year FBS schools are 63-6 against FCS schools, meaning a few borderline teams could fall on the wrong side of the dividing line for wins needed to play in a bowl game.
The last time fewer than 70 teams were bowl eligible was 2005 when just 69 teams qualified.
