Nunnelee: “No more job-killers from Travis Childers”
Sen. Alan Nunnelee argues for extending the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts to get America’s economy moving again, while Congressman Travis Childers has repeatedly voted to kill jobs in North Mississippi.
Sen. Alan Nunnelee, candidate for Congress in North Mississippi, is calling for extending the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts in full to generate job growth, while drawing attention to his opponent’s record on taxes and spending.
“In his time in Congress, Congressman Travis Childers has voted for 14 tax increases that account for $654 billion over the next five years,” said Nunnelee. “He’s voted for over $2.5 trillion in new federal spending. North Mississippi voters want to know why our economy isn’t growing and why unemployment rates are so stubborn. The answer? People like Congressman Childers.”
North Mississippi has lost 22,000 jobs since Congressman Childers took office. “Congressman Childers continually tells us how much he supports job growth when he’s in Washington. With that kind of track record, North Mississippians would be better off if he came home,” added Nunnelee. “North Mississippians would gladly eliminate Congressman Childers’ job to save 22,000.”
Unless this Congress acts in coming weeks, it will be responsible for another tax increase as well when the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts expire on January 1. If the cuts expire, taxes on every tax bracket will increase, the marriage penalty tax will come back, the child tax credit will decrease from $1000 to $500, the death tax will return, capital gains taxes will go up from 15% to 20%, and the dividends tax will go from 15% to 39.6%.
Economists have stated the coming tax increases will continue to stall growth and kill jobs.
Nunnelee has argued for extending all the tax cuts: “We can’t afford to kill any more jobs. Nancy Pelosi, Congressman Childers, and liberals in Congress have done enough already. They need to extend the tax cuts for all wage earners, even the top bracket. Those earners account for over 20% of consumer demand in our country.”
Pelosi and her leadership team have thus far refused to offer to fully extend the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts.
