Touring the college football nation: It’s an easy decision for LSU
If LSU coach Les Miles is a man of his word, he shouldn’t have any problem naming a starting quarterback for Saturday’s home game against Mississippi State.
“I think the responsibility is to pick the best player who gives you the best opportunity for victory,” Miles said.
The decision shouldn’t be too difficult, not after the way backup quarterback Jarrett Lee rallied the sinking Tigers from a 14-3 halftime deficit to a 26-21 victory at Auburn.
After starting quarterback Andrew Hatch got knocked silly in the first half, it took Lee time to get some rhythm. He went from going 0-for-5 passing in the second quarter with an interception that was returned for a touchdown, to completing 11-of-17 for 182 yards and two touchdowns in the second half.
“I knew I would get back in,” Lee said. “I just knew when the opportunity came to me, I had to make the right decisions. Unfortunately, I did not make the right decisions the first time, but when they called my name again, I came through.”
