Tulane Baseball Falls In C-USA Series Finale To Southern Miss, 10-8
The Green Wave’s 4-5-6 hitters combined to go 7-for-13 with five RBI, and sophomore right-hander Preston Claiborne tossed 3.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, but it was not enough as the Tulane University baseball team dropped the series finale to Conference USA rival Southern Miss, 10-8, Sunday afternoon at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
Tulane out-hit Southern Miss, 14-5, but the Golden Eagles used home runs by Drew Carson, Chris Matesich and Michael Ewing and scored a pair of unearned runs on a key two-out error in the fifth to salvage a game during the weekend. While the Green Wave won the series 2-1 courtesy of 4-3 and 4-2 victories on Friday and Saturday, respectively, Sunday’s loss drops Tulane to 27-12-1 on the year and 6-5-1 in C-USA play. Southern Miss, meanwhile, improves to 26-13 overall and 6-6 in league action.
